The Los Angeles Lakers currently have a full roster and are operating just below the second salary cap apron. Despite their efforts this offseason to enhance the team, significant moves have yet to materialize.
To make any notable changes, the Lakers would need to create roster space. General manager Rob Pelinka might still seek opportunities to improve the team before the start of training camp, and there are several noteworthy free agents available.

According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Lakers are considered a viable destination for veteran sharpshooter Doug McDermott. Swartz highlighted McDermott as a fitting addition for the Lakers:
“At 32, McDermott may not contribute much beyond his shooting, but he excels as a floor-spacer and would complement LeBron James and Anthony Davis well. Last season, he hit 47.8% of his pull-up threes and 40.3% of his catch-and-shoot shots while playing for the San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers. The Pacers saw a 7.1-point increase per 100 possessions with McDermott on the floor (94th percentile, according to Cleaning the Glass). His defensive weaknesses could be mitigated by playing alongside Davis.”
McDermott played a key role in spacing the floor for the Pacers, who were among the top offensive teams in the league last season. His shooting prowess could significantly enhance the Lakers’ offense, especially as they focus on increasing their three-point attempts this season.
Last year, McDermott, who previously played for Creighton, split his time between the Spurs and the Pacers. He averaged 5.5 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game, shooting 41.0% from beyond the arc.
If the Lakers were to sign McDermott, he would likely benefit from passes from LeBron James, one of the best passers in basketball history, which could lead to a productive season for him. While his defensive issues are a concern, especially for a Lakers team that struggled defensively last season, his offensive contributions could outweigh his defensive liabilities.
Adding McDermott could be a valuable gamble for the Lakers, providing additional size at 6-foot-6. However, until roster changes are made, any potential impact remains speculative.
