Saturday marked a significant day for AC Milan as players Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, and Tijjani Reijnders rejoined the team after enjoying extended holidays. According to Calciomercato, the Serie A runners-up are set to intensify discussions regarding contract extensions for the French duo.
All three athletes participated in the EURO 2024 semi-finals representing France and the Netherlands. Consequently, Milan afforded them additional rest to recover from a demanding season. Now back to work, the trio trained separately from the main squad and will soon integrate into preparations under the guidance of new manager Paulo Fonseca.
While Milan embarks on their pre-season tour in the United States, Maignan, Hernandez, and Reijnders will continue individual training sessions at the Milanello facility. Contract negotiations for Maignan and Hernandez are expected to gain traction upon the team’s return to Italy.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently emphasized Milan’s commitment to retaining their key players, stating, “Theo, Leao, and Maignan are happy to stay with us because they are among the strongest in the world in their roles. We don’t need to sell.” The two French players have drawn interest from top European clubs, but Milan remains steadfast in their resolve to keep these critical team members who have been integral to their recent successes.
In contrast, Davide Calabria’s future at Milan is less certain. Despite being the team captain and a product of the club’s youth system, Calabria could leave San Siro this summer. Nonetheless, he is keen to prove his worth to Fonseca.
