BREAKING: Aston Villa in Advanced talks to sign a forward for a Club Record Fee worth £111m

Aston Villa is poised to secure the signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, following a significant update indicating the Spanish club’s eagerness to offload the Portuguese attacker. Since Unai Emery’s appointment in October 2022, Villa has made substantial progress, including qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in over 40 years.
Despite the departure of Douglas Luiz to Juventus, Villa has made eight new signings, including Amadou Onana, Ian Maatsen, and Jaden Philogene. With the Champions League approaching, Villa is keen to further strengthen their squad, with Felix and Raphinha being targeted in a potential double raid on Spain.
Felix, who has struggled to justify his €127.2m price tag at Atletico, is now seen as surplus to requirements. He has been loaned out twice, but neither move resulted in a permanent transfer. With Atletico eager to sell, Felix has given the green light to join Villa, believing Emery can help him fulfill his potential.
Villa is taking a patient approach, willing to spend £50m-£60m on the transfer. Felix’s financial demands are not expected to be an issue, as his current deal earns him €115,000 a week, which would place him below the club’s top earners. Benfica, Felix’s former club, is also interested but cannot match Villa’s offer. With Atletico keen to sell and Felix keen on the move, Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, is confident of securing the signing before the transfer window closes.
