American tennis sensation Coco Gauff has faced significant challenges in 2024, leading some experts to suggest she might benefit from a break to safeguard her mental health.
At just 20 years old, Gauff remains a rising star in tennis, but her undeniable talent has placed immense expectations on her.
When she arrived at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, many believed she was a strong contender for a gold medal, making anything less seem disappointing.

Unfortunately, Gauff’s journey at the Olympics ended in the quarter-finals, leaving her with a sense of unfinished business. She then competed in the Canadian Open, where she was unexpectedly defeated by a lower-ranked opponent in an early round. Her struggles continued at the Cincinnati Open, where she failed to defend her title, adding to a string of recent disappointments.
Monica Puig, a former tennis player, recently commented on Tennis Channel that Gauff could benefit from a “mental reset” to regain her competitive edge. Puig stated, “I would love to see her make a mental reset. We know the type of tennis she is capable of playing. She needs to focus on serving well and playing an aggressive game style. But maybe it’s time to put last year’s US Open behind her, start fresh, and build from there.”
Gauff herself has acknowledged her recent struggles, stating, “I feel like I have to work on consistency, overall. I’ll probably go home and try to reset.” She also reflected on her subpar performance against her opponent, noting, “I made a lot of errors, especially when I was up 4-2 (in the third set). I think most of the points she won were off my errors.”
