The Magpies have bid heartfelt farewells to Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett, whose contracts expired at the end of the season.
Despite being linked with Sheffield United, neither Ritchie nor Dummett has secured a new club yet.
Among the departing senior players, Kelland Watts is the only one to have found a new team. He signed a two-year deal with Cambridge United in League One.
Jeff Hendrick remains a free agent, as does Loris Karius, although Karius’s status might change soon.
Karius was released by Newcastle United at the end of last season, a move that was expected given his partner Diletta Leotta’s desire for him to play for an Italian club. The 31-year-old recently married and could now fulfill his wife’s wish.
According to Calciomercato, Karius has been proposed as a potential signing for AC Milan. Although Milan had not planned to sign a goalkeeper this summer, an injury to Marco Sportiello has forced them to reconsider.
Calciomercato also mentions Simone Scuffet and Rui Patricio as potential targets for AC Milan. With several options available, Karius hopes to be the one chosen.
During his almost two-year stint at Newcastle United, Karius made just two appearances, including the 2023 Carabao Cup final. Despite his “relaxed” demeanor, he couldn’t help the Magpies end their trophy drought in his debut at Wembley.
Regardless, he played an important role for Eddie Howe, who has since brought in John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos as replacements.
