Alfie Chang hasn’t played for Birmingham City since sustaining a severe knee injury during a training session last August. His determination to regain fitness has impressed new manager Chris Davies, but the midfielder is still some distance from rejoining the first team.
Chang, a defensive midfielder, has been sidelined for nearly a year after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament in late August 2023. The 21-year-old is on a lengthy road to recovery and has yet to train under Davies.
Providing an update on Chang, Davies told BirminghamLive, “He’s been out for a long time, and I haven’t actually trained with him yet. He’s been outside running and is gradually progressing with his rehab, step by step.”
Before his injury, Chang made seven starts in the Championship for the Blues. Over the past 11 months, he has been confined to gym workouts and cycling around Henley-in-Arden, where the first team is based, to maintain his fitness. A few months ago, he received clearance to start jogging again.
