BREAKING NEWS: Djokovic set a new record as the oldest tennis player to win a gold medal sin..READ MORE

Novak Djokovic has achieved a historic milestone by winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final. This victory makes him only the fifth player to achieve a career Golden Slam.
Djokovic was outstanding in the gold medal match, overcoming Alcaraz, who had beaten him in the Wimbledon final a month earlier, with a score of 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2). This triumph adds to the bronze medal he won at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, marking his second Olympic medal.
In a classic performance, Djokovic maintained a first-serve percentage of 74% across the two sets and saved eight break points against the four-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz. With this win, Djokovic joins an elite group of players—Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams—who have won all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold in singles.
Djokovic also set a new record as the oldest tennis player to win a gold medal since tennis was reinstated in the Olympic program in 1988. He surpassed Andy Murray, who was 29 years and 91 days old when he won gold at the 2016 Rio Games, and Matthew Ebden, who was 36 years and 251 days old when he won gold in men’s doubles at Paris this year. At 37 years and 76 days, Djokovic is now the oldest player to win Olympic gold.
He also joins Serena Williams and Roger Federer as the only players in the Open Era to reach the singles finals after turning 30, surpassing them as the oldest player to achieve this feat. Djokovic is also the second player after Agassi to win all four Grand Slams and the ATP Finals, a distinction Nadal hasn’t achieved due to his failure to win the season-ending finals.
Djokovic’s focus on winning Olympic gold was clear from the beginning of the year, despite facing criticism for prioritizing it. He faced setbacks, including a semi-final loss at the Australian Open, a lack of tournament victories in the first seven months of the season—a first since 2006—and a knee injury that required surgery, causing him to withdraw from the French Open quarter-final and putting his participation in Wimbledon and the Olympics in doubt.
Despite these challenges, Djokovic reached the Wimbledon final and finished as runner-up to Alcaraz. His dedication paid off as he secured gold at Paris 2024, silencing his critics and adding another remarkable achievement to his illustrious career.
