Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has expressed a strong need for new signings, stating that the club has been “desperate” for reinforcements for some time. With the transfer window still open, Cooper is eager to secure at least a few more additions to the squad.
On Saturday, Leicester welcomed their fifth signing of the summer, Facundo Buonanotte, who joined on a season-long loan from Brighton. However, Cooper hinted at growing frustration, as Buonanotte is the first new arrival in three weeks. After watching his team suffer a 3-0 defeat to Lens in their final pre-season match, Cooper acknowledged that he has had to play players out of position due to the limited options available, particularly in attack. He believes that the team still needs “more than a couple” of new arrivals to be competitive in the Premier League.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester after the Lens match, Cooper said, “We know where we stand with the current squad, and we just have to keep pushing forward. Everyone is calling for fresh talent, especially the players. Today made that clear.”
He emphasized the importance of strengthening the squad, noting that it’s crucial for success in the Premier League after moving up from the Championship. “I don’t want to put a specific number on it, but we definitely need more than a couple of signings. The players are aware of this too, and it would boost everyone,” Cooper added.
“The players are asking for it. They understand the difference between the two leagues, and that’s what drives the desire. Let’s hope we can make it happen.”
