Clemson’s backup linebacker Kobe McCloud will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury sustained during the Tigers’ win over Appalachian State, head coach Dabo Swinney announced on Monday.
Swinney revealed that McCloud will require surgery on his right knee, although the surgery date has not yet been scheduled.
McCloud, a 5-foot-11, 225-pound junior from Tampa, Florida, serves as the primary backup to starters Barrett Carter and Wade Woodaz. Last season, he started two games, accumulating 17 tackles, including 3.5 for a loss, and forced a fumble.
In McCloud’s absence, Swinney indicated that freshman Sammy Brown and sophomore Jamal Anderson will see increased roles. Brown, a five-star recruit, led the team with seven tackles in the last game. Anderson, a 6-2, 215-pound sophomore from Buford, Georgia, is the son of former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson.
