Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has acknowledged that adjusting to the demands of Premier League football took some time.

The Italian joined Tottenham from Empoli last summer for an initial £17.2m fee, replacing Hugo Lloris. He signed a contract with the north London club until 2028, concluding an impressive two-year stint with Empoli.

Vicario quickly adapted to Ange Postecoglou’s aggressive, pressing system at Spurs, playing a crucial role in building play from the back. His performances earned him nominations for the Premier League’s Save of the Month multiple times last season. His strong form also secured him a spot in Italy’s squad for Euro 2024, although he didn’t see any game time in Germany.

Despite his success, Vicario faced challenges, particularly with teams targeting him during set-pieces. After a strong debut season in north London, he has admitted that it took time to adapt to the speed and physicality of the Premier League following his switch from Serie A.

Vicario quickly became a favorite among Spurs fans due to his command in the box, shot-stopping abilities, passion, and leadership. His saves were crucial in keeping Tottenham in games, especially given the number of big chances conceded due to their high defensive line.

Now, after a year of adaptation, the 27-year-old feels ready to tackle the challenges of his second season at Spurs.
