Wolves defender Hugo Bueno is leaning towards a transfer to Celtic despite interest from Leeds United, as reported by James Marshment.
On 4 August, Marshment revealed on his personal X account that although Leeds are interested in Bueno, the prospect of playing in the Champions League is a significant draw for the 21-year-old.
Bueno, who has made 49 appearances for Wolves since his debut in 2022, is attracting attention from several clubs. Leeds United faces competition from Celtic for his signature.
Signing Hugo Bueno would be a noteworthy addition for Leeds this summer, considering his Premier League experience and his dynamic play on the left flank. Despite his talent, Bueno has struggled for consistent starts at Wolves recently, with only seven Premier League starts last season compared to 16 the previous year. Seeking more playing time, he might find Elland Road appealing.
Currently, Junior Firpo appears to be manager Daniel Farke’s preferred left-back for the upcoming 2024/25 season, but the full-back positions have been a concern for Leeds during the transfer window. The acquisition of Jayden Bogle has helped, but Farke may still look to strengthen the options alongside Firpo and Sam Byram.
However, with Celtic being Bueno’s preferred destination, Leeds will need to make a compelling case to persuade him that moving to Elland Road is the best choice for his career development.
Leeds aims to win the Championship league title and secure promotion to the Premier League after narrowly missing out in the play-off final against Southampton last season. Bueno could be crucial in achieving that goal if he chooses Leeds over Celtic.
