DEAL SEALED: Former Newcastle forward reaches agreement with Portsmouth

Portsmouth could finalize the transfer of Danish forward Elias Sorensen as soon as this evening. According to The News, the Blues are close to securing the signing of the Esbjerg fB player, who bid farewell to his Blue Water Arena teammates this morning before heading to the south coast.

A medical examination is also scheduled, and it is anticipated that the former Denmark under-20 international will be introduced as Portsmouth’s seventh summer signing within the next 24-36 hours. Reports surfaced on Tuesday indicating that a fee between 300,000 and 400,000 euros has been agreed with Esbjerg for Sorensen’s transfer.

Portsmouth’s interest in Sorensen was first revealed earlier in the week, with the club now progressing in the deal after their initial inquiry last week and following the collapse of a potential move to German side FC Hansa Rostock. Despite interest from several Danish clubs, Sorensen, who scored 23 goals in 17 league appearances last season and helped Esbjerg win Denmark’s third-tier title, is set to join Portsmouth. This move comes as a boost for the Blues, especially after the news that Coby Bishop will undergo heart surgery in early August.

Sorensen, who previously spent five years at Newcastle United, played his last match for Esbjerg on Friday, contributing a goal and four assists in a 6-3 victory against Hobro. Although he played on the left wing during that game, Sorensen prefers to play centrally, a position Portsmouth needs to reinforce following Bishop’s medical update.
