
According to the Lancashire Telegraph, the two clubs are currently negotiating a deal for Rovers’ top scorer, who netted 33 goals in 48 games last season. Szmodics, 28, has missed the last three pre-season matches amid the ongoing discussions.
Rovers are reportedly asking for a substantial £20 million fee for the forward, while Town is unwilling to meet that valuation.
Eustace mentioned that if a deal isn’t finalized soon, Szmodics might play in Rovers’ Championship season opener against Derby County on Friday.
“Listen, Sammie is a top player, and as head coach, I don’t want to lose him, but we’ll have to see what happens,” he said.
He added, “I am sure there is a deadline, and we’re just waiting on that over the weekend. He’s been training and has been his usual cheerful self around the place. If he stays, he will definitely be involved.”
