DONE DEAL: AC Milan Lands €30 Million Midfielder

AC Milan are aggressively pursuing top-tier attackers this summer to challenge for the Serie A title once again, having lagged behind Napoli and Inter Milan in recent seasons after their 2021/22 triumph.

Following the acquisition of Alvaro Morata to replace Olivier Giroud, Milan are eyeing a second striker to upgrade from the inconsistent Luka Jovic. Niclas Fullkrug from Dortmund and Roma’s Tammy Abraham are the leading candidates.

Additionally, Milan are keen on enhancing their attack with a playmaker to add midfield goals and complement rising star Tijani Reijnders.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Milan see Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic as an ideal No. 10 for new manager Paulo Fonseca. Despite already having Reijnders, Milan are open to deploying multiple playmakers, similar to Manchester City’s 2022/23 strategy. However, they need the right anchoring midfielder to make this work, with Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana being a potential, though uncertain, target amidst Manchester United’s interest.

Samardzic, known for his distance shooting and scoring ability, offers a different dynamic than Reijnders, being less of a ball-winner and more of a direct threat. Juventus previously showed strong interest in Samardzic, but he remained at Udinese, finishing the 2023/24 Serie A season with 6 goals, 2 assists, 1.8 key passes per game, and 1.4 dribbles per match.
