DONE DEAL: Girona signs £40 Million Tottenham Star

Tottenham Hotspur has announced that winger Bryan Gil will spend the 2024/25 season on loan with La Liga side Girona. The Spanish winger, who had a limited role under Ange Postecoglou last season, seemed likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the new season approached.

Gil was notably absent from Postecoglou’s matchday squads for the pre-season fixtures against Hearts and QPR. Last week, Tottenham confirmed that Gil, along with Sergio Reguilon, would not be joining the rest of the team for their tour of Japan and South Korea. Both players were given permission to stay in London to explore potential transfer opportunities.

While there has been little news regarding Reguilon’s future, Gil has secured his move to Girona. This marks the third time the 23-year-old has returned to Spain on loan since joining Spurs, following previous stints with Valencia and his former club Sevilla.

The move could be advantageous for Gil, as Girona finished third in La Liga last season, earning a spot in the Champions League. He and his new teammates will find out their Champions League opponents when the draw takes place next month.

Gil’s loan spell includes a return to England for pre-season friendlies against Newcastle United and Bournemouth before the La Liga season starts. Girona’s first match of the new campaign is an away game against Real Betis on Thursday, August 15.

Gil, who made only 12 appearances for Tottenham in the 2023/24 season, joins Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matthew Craig in heading out on loan for the upcoming season.
