The Los Angeles Lakers have confirmed the re-signing of shooting guard Max Christie. This announcement came on Saturday from Rob Pelinka, the vice president of basketball operations and general manager, and was also shared on the team’s official social media accounts.
The Lakers managed to secure the 21-year-old just before the start of free agency on June 30. Christie was a top priority for the team, and they signed him to a four-year, $32 million contract on July 6, the first day NBA teams could officially sign free agents.

Christie is expected to have a breakout season. Although he hasn’t had the chance to fully showcase his abilities, he has shown potential. Last season, Christie played in 67 games, averaging 4.2 points (42.7 FG%, 35.6 3P%, 78.3 FT%) and 2.1 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game. These stats reflect significant growth from his rookie season, suggesting a promising leap in the 2024-25 season.
Drafted No. 35 in the 2022 NBA Draft after one season at Michigan State, Christie has quickly become a key player for the Lakers.
The Lakers’ offseason has been relatively quiet, with Christie and superstar LeBron James being their only signings so far. While more moves are anticipated, fans shouldn’t expect immediate changes.
