The Los Angeles Lakers have officially confirmed the signing of former Xavier guard Quincy Olivari, a move initially reported back in June. The announcement was made through the team’s official X account. Although the terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that the 6-foot-3 guard has signed an Exhibit 10 training camp contract.

Currently, all 15 of the Lakers’ standard roster spots and three two-way contracts are filled. Olivari, along with Kylor Kelley and Sean East, who have also reportedly signed Exhibit 10 contracts, are likely competing for spots on the South Bay Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate. However, there’s a chance that if any of these players impress new head coach JJ Redick or general manager Rob Pelinka during training camp, they could potentially replace current two-way players Blake Hinson, Armel Traore, or Colin Castleton.
Olivari had a standout college career at Rice, earning All-CUSA honors twice before transferring to Xavier for his final season. During the 2023-24 season with Xavier, Olivari averaged 19.1 points on .425/.409/.814 shooting, along with 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
In his five-game stint with the Lakers during the Las Vegas Summer League and California Classic, Olivari posted averages of 5.8 points, 1.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks over 14.9 minutes per game, with shooting splits of .286/.267/1.000. It seems his strong college performance is the primary reason the Lakers are giving him a closer look this fall.
If Olivari sticks around on an Exhibit 10 deal, he could be eligible for a bonus of up to $77.5K, provided he joins the South Bay Lakers as an affiliate player for at least 60 days after being waived by the Lakers.
In total, the Lakers now have 20 players signed ahead of training camp. However, the team’s standard roster may still need adjustments, particularly in strengthening the frontcourt and wing defense.
