DONE DEAL: Leicester City is set to complete a deal for a new striker as an agreement has been reached.

Leicester City will soon find out if Crystal Palace is willing to approve a transfer for striker Jordan Ayew.

Over the weekend, news surfaced about Leicester’s interest in the veteran striker. According to the London Standard, Palace is open to letting Ayew go if they receive a sufficiently attractive offer during the current transfer window. Ayew, 32, joined Palace from Swansea City in 2019 and has been a consistent presence, playing in at least 30 Premier League matches each season and scoring 23 goals in 211 appearances.

Last season, the Ghanaian international scored four goals and provided seven assists, primarily playing on the right wing. However, his playing time decreased when Palace’s new manager Oliver Glasner switched to a 3-4-2-1 formation towards the end of the season. Another consideration for Leicester manager Steve Cooper is that Ayew has not scored more than five goals in a season since 2019/20.

Ayew is currently with Palace on a pre-season tour in the USA. The Standard reports that Leicester has inquired about Ayew’s availability, and Palace will decide in the coming days whether to approve the move.

Leicester is currently without Jamie Vardy, who is injured, leaving Tom Cannon and Patson Daka competing for the starting striker position at King Power Stadium. Consequently, Cooper has not ruled out the possibility of signing a new striker before the transfer window closes. The good news for Leicester is that Ayew might not be very expensive, as he is in the final year of his Palace contract, which runs until next June after an extension signed last November.
