Newcastle United have received a significant transfer signal from new Juventus manager Thiago Motta amid ongoing speculation about Federico Chiesa. The Magpies have shown interest in Chiesa over the past two seasons, and the 26-year-old winger now appears poised to depart the Turin club this summer.
Chiesa, an Italian international, was notably absent from Juventus’ squad for a pre-season friendly against Brest in Pescara. Motta has since confirmed that Chiesa is not part of his plans moving forward.
“Chiesa and all the other players not called up for today’s game are not part of the project,” Motta stated. “We have been clear with them; they need to find a new solution and a new club as soon as possible. The decision has been made.”

Newcastle, along with several other Premier League clubs, are reportedly keen on signing Chiesa this summer. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that a fee of around €20-25 million would secure the versatile winger’s services.
Motta’s announcement indicates that Chiesa, along with other high-profile Juventus players, will not feature in his strategy for the season.
Chiesa has been a long-time target for Milan, but Newcastle’s interest has intensified. The 25-year-old, who boasts 10 senior caps for Brazil, impressed the Rossoneri with his versatility, being able to play as a right-back, in an advanced role, or even in central defense.
His contract with Tottenham Hotspur runs until June 2026, having been signed from Barcelona for €25 million in 2021. During his time at Spurs, Chiesa made 101 appearances, scored four goals, and provided two assists.
As Newcastle United seek to bolster their squad this summer, Chiesa’s potential transfer could bring a wealth of experience and a point to prove to their front line, especially after his standout performance in Italy’s EURO 2020 triumph, despite recent injury challenges.
