DONE DEAL: Red Sox Acquire Veteran Reliever From Angels

In a strategic move to strengthen their bullpen, the Boston Red Sox acquired veteran right-handed reliever Luis García from the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday evening. The trade was orchestrated by chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and reported by John Heyman of the New York Post.

Details of the trade have yet to be fully disclosed.

García, 37, brings a wealth of experience to the Red Sox, particularly in high-pressure, late-inning situations. This season, he has posted a 3.71 ERA with 40 strikeouts over 43 2/3 innings. García is expected to provide crucial support to closer Kenley Jansen. Notably, García is set to become a free agent after the current season.

Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe expressed optimism about the trade on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting García’s extensive playoff experience and his strong performance as a setup man this season.

By adding García and Lucas Sims to the bullpen, Breslow has addressed a significant need for the Red Sox. Alongside bolstering the bullpen, Breslow also enhanced the team’s rotation with James Paxton and improved the lineup with Danny Jansen.

While some may argue that the Red Sox could have done more to enhance their offensive capabilities, the overall moves made by Breslow have been viewed as solid, aiming to prepare the team for a stronger playoff push.
