The Boston Red Sox have made a series of roster moves, including the addition of newly acquired right-hander Lucas Sims. Sims joins the team after being traded from the Cincinnati Reds just before the trade deadline, alongside right-hander Luis Garcia. Garcia is expected to join the roster later in the week, either on Thursday or Friday.
To accommodate Sims on the roster, the Red Sox designated veteran right-hander Yohan Ramirez for assignment. Ramirez had only appeared in one game for Boston after being claimed off waivers on Sunday.
In addition to these moves, the Red Sox have called up infielder Nick Sogard from their Triple-A affiliate in Worcester and optioned infielder Jamie Westbrook back to Worcester.
Sims, 30, has compiled a 1-4 record with a 3.57 ERA and one save in 43 appearances out of the Cincinnati bullpen this season.
Nick Sogard is set to make his major league debut with his first appearance. The 26-year-old has been impressive at Worcester, posting a .279/.382/.439 slash line with 12 home runs, 17 doubles, and 54 RBIs. However, he is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Seattle Mariners.
Jamie Westbrook, 29, has struggled in his rookie campaign, batting .150 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 21 games.
Yohan Ramirez, 29, pitched 1 1/3 innings on Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned). The Red Sox are his fourth team this year, and he has played for eight teams throughout his major league career, accumulating a 6-9 record with a 4.58 ERA.
