In the Premier League, newly-promoted Southampton are reportedly set to make another bid for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.
The 23-year-old has garnered significant attention after netting 19 goals and providing 18 assists in 49 competitive matches last season, contributing to Celtic’s Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup victories.
Despite turning down multiple offers from Atalanta BC and a reported £12 million bid from Southampton, Brendan Rodgers’s team faces a tough challenge in keeping O’Riley.
According to Football Insider, Southampton are preparing a new offer to lure O’Riley away from Celtic Park. The exact amount Southampton plans to offer is unclear, but they are considering including Shea Charles in a player-plus-cash deal.
While Celtic are interested in the 20-year-old midfielder, they prefer a straight cash deal for O’Riley and are holding out for their £25 million asking price.
Southampton manager Russell Martin is familiar with O’Riley’s abilities, having previously coached him at MK Dons.
