Southampton are preparing a second bid for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, sources have informed Football Insider.
On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Saints are contemplating a part-exchange offer involving Shea Charles. The Premier League club may offer Charles plus cash to secure the deal.
Sources indicate that while Celtic are interested in Charles, they would prefer a straightforward cash deal for the 23-year-old. Southampton’s initial £12 million offer was rejected by Celtic, who are holding out for their £25 million valuation of O’Riley.
Celtic aims to secure a club-record fee for O’Riley before the transfer window closes. Previous high-profile sales for Celtic include Jota and Kieran Tierney, each for £25 million, and a similar offer would be required for them to consider selling O’Riley.
