Ange Postecoglou is counting on club chief Johan Lange to help him craft a formidable Tottenham attack for the 2024/25 season. Despite recent signings like Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon, James Maddison, and Timo Werner, Postecoglou aims to further strengthen the frontline.
“At Celtic, I had Kyogo as a traditional number nine, and in Japan, I always had a striker. Last year, we had to be a bit creative,” he told football.london. “If Harry had stayed, I would have definitely used him. What’s crucial is the type of striker we bring in, as we play a specific way. We require certain physical and technical qualities, and currently, it’s the area where our squad is the thinnest.”

Spurs are likely to sign a new attacker this summer, with Jonathan David, Desire Doue, Jacob Ramsey, and Pedro Neto being potential candidates. The team scored 74 Premier League goals last season, with Son Heung-min and Richarlison both achieving double figures. However, injuries hindered Richarlison’s consistency, often necessitating contributions from others, including central defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, who combined for eight goals.
A squad overhaul is expected before the summer window closes, with Richarlison among those potentially leaving. Signed from Everton for £60 million in 2022, Spurs hope to recoup that fee.
Lille’s Jonathan David and Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez have been mentioned as possible replacements, but Premier League experience makes Dominic Solanke an ideal addition. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Solanke, who remained injury-free last season, is on Tottenham’s shortlist. Acquiring the 26-year-old would allow Son to return to the left wing, with Werner as a backup option.
On the opposite side, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson would compete for the spot, with Johnson favored due to his exceptional crossing abilities that would complement Solanke. Securing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace could enhance Tottenham’s midfield options, possibly impacting Maddison’s minutes but allowing both to play ahead of Yves Bissouma.
Dream front five: Maddison, Eze; Johnson, Solanke, Son.
