DONE DEAL: West Ham signs United Midfielder

West Ham United remain interested in securing a deal for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer, although they face stiff competition from several Premier League rivals, according to a report from Manchester World on 3 July.

The report indicates that Fulham is currently leading the race to sign the Scotland international, with Southampton and Newcastle United also expressing strong interest. A bid from Fulham is reportedly “expected” soon.

Fulham manager Marco Silva is keen to pair McTominay with former Manchester United teammate Andreas Pereira. Despite this, West Ham remains in contention for McTominay’s signature, although their interest has seemingly decreased since last summer when their initial bid was rejected under then-manager David Moyes.

Current West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is still interested in the 27-year-old midfielder, who is not the only Manchester United player on the Hammers’ radar. Full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a target for the London club, as reported by Dharmesh Sheth on 2 July.

McTominay, who enjoyed a successful season scoring 10 goals across all competitions, continues to attract attention from West Ham. Despite the club’s relatively well-stocked central midfield, Lopetegui appears intent on making significant changes, with talks also held for Celtic star Matt O’Riley, according to HITC on 2 July.

Tim Steidten’s involvement could help revive negotiations for McTominay, building on last summer’s discussions. Although previous attempts to sign McTominay and Harry Maguire fell through, West Ham’s interest remains.

A potential move for McTominay could be complicated by Manchester United’s new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who, according to the Daily Star on 24 March, was set to offer McTominay a new contract. However, no official announcement has been made, which may present an opportunity for West Ham to pursue the midfielder if they decide to push forward with their interest.

As the transfer window progresses, West Ham’s pursuit of McTominay and Wan-Bissaka promises to be a significant storyline, with the Hammers eager to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
