The Texas Rangers have started to sign their 2024 draft class, selected last week in Fort Worth.
On April 16, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan, a Texas Rangers cap was seen in the dugout during the first inning against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.
The Rangers have signed their fourth-round pick, David Hagaman from West Virginia, to a slightly under-slot deal, as reported by MLB Pipeline. The right-handed pitcher agreed to a $515,000 deal, below the slot value of $530,400 for the No. 133 overall pick.
Hagaman, a redshirt sophomore, helped the Mountaineers reach the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament this year, despite missing part of the season due to injury. In 14 games last season, he posted a 2-3 record with a 5.91 ERA, allowing 23 earned runs in 35 innings. He struck out 49 batters and walked 19, averaging nine strikeouts per nine innings. His 49 strikeouts ranked fourth on the team, despite his limited innings.
On March 23, Hagaman achieved a career-high 10 strikeouts in a game against Oklahoma. Over his two seasons at WVU, he recorded a 3-5 record with a 4.66 ERA in 36 appearances. He redshirted in 2022.
Hailing from Somers Point, N.J., Hagaman was a standout at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, N.J., where he struck out 81 batters in 48 2/3 innings and posted a 2.77 ERA as a senior.
