Sha’Carri Richardson, the American world champion, secured a victory over St Lucia’s Julien Alfred in the women’s 100m final at the Zurich Diamond League, gaining redemption for her Olympic loss. Alfred, who made history by becoming St Lucia’s first Olympic medallist with a 200m gold and 100m silver in Paris, was edged out by Richardson’s 10.84-second win on Thursday.

Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith claimed third place, while fellow Brit Daryll Neita finished seventh.

In the men’s 200m, Botswana’s Olympic star Letsile Tebogo dominated with a 19.55-second win, beating Americans Kenneth Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton, who took second and third.

The men’s 1500m saw a nail-biting finish as Yared Nuguse of the USA outpaced Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, repeating his Olympic bronze finish. Olympic champion Cole Hocker came third, and Britain’s Josh Kerr, who had secured silver in Paris, settled for fifth.

In the women’s 800m, Kenya’s Mary Moraa triumphed, while Britain’s Georgia Bell finished second, and Jemma Reekie took fourth.

Sweden’s pole vault sensation, Armand Duplantis, continued his winning streak with a victory, fresh off his success in a 100m exhibition race against 400m hurdler Karsten Warholm.

The night also saw Kenyan double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet post a world-leading time of 14:09.52 in the women’s 5,000m. Ukraine’s high jump champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh, American shot-putter Ryan Crouser, and 110m hurdler Grant Holloway also secured impressive wins.
