F1 2025: Sprint Race Locations Revealed, Belgian GP Comeback with New Twist

The 2025 Formula 1 season will see the Belgian Grand Prix host the Sprint format, taking over from Austria. Despite earlier discussions about introducing reverse grid races, the Sprint format will remain unchanged. Catch the Hungarian GP from July 19-21 live on Sky Sports F1.

F1 has unveiled the six venues that will feature Sprint events in the 2025 season. These are China, Miami, Belgium, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar, each hosting a 100km race on Saturday.

The Austrian Grand Prix, a Sprint event host since 2022, will be replaced by Belgium next year. The Sprint format, which has boosted TV and social media engagement on Fridays, will continue without modifications.

The 2025 F1 schedule includes Australia as the season opener on March 16. China will host the first Sprint weekend from March 21-23, followed by Miami on May 2-4, and Belgium on July 25-27. The second half of the season will feature Sprints in Austin (October 17-19), Sao Paulo (November 7-9), and Qatar (November 28-30).

F1 President Stefano Domenicali praised the Sprint format’s success, highlighting its contribution to increased fan engagement and attendance. He emphasized the importance of innovation while respecting F1’s rich history.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem noted the evolution of the Sprint format through collaboration with F1 and team inputs, expressing confidence in the six 2025 Sprint events to deliver additional action.

Sprint Format Details

The Sprint weekend begins with a single practice session on Friday afternoon, followed by Sprint Qualifying. Saturday features the 100km Sprint race and full Qualifying, setting the grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix. After the initial competitive session, cars enter parc fermé, but are released for setup adjustments after Saturday’s Sprint, before being locked in again for Sunday’s race.
