Foo Fighters Introduce New Drummer with Funny AI-Generated Video

The Foo Fighters have unveiled their new drummer in true rock ’n’ roll fashion — with a little help from artificial intelligence and a lot of humor.

The band dropped a playful AI-generated video on social media this week to introduce their latest lineup addition. In the clip, various over-the-top “AI candidates” for the drummer position were shown, ranging from a robot with 20 arms to a cartoonish hologram of Dave Grohl himself behind the kit. Each version delivered a few wild drum fills before glitching out in hilarious ways.

After a few minutes of comic misdirection, the real new drummer was finally revealed who took a bow and joined the band onscreen. The moment was met with cheers from fans in the comments, who praised the band’s creativity in making the announcement memorable.

The Foo Fighters have been carrying on following the tragic passing of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022. Since then, fans have eagerly speculated about who might permanently fill the spot. By using humor and tech to reveal the news, the band managed to stay true to their irreverent spirit while also showing respect for Hawkins’ legacy.

The announcement comes just ahead of the Foo Fighters’ fall tour, which kicks off later this month. With a new drummer officially in the fold, the band looks ready to continue delivering the high-energy performances they’ve been known for over nearly three decades.

On X (formerly Twitter), one fan summed it up best: “Only the Foo Fighters would use AI to troll us before dropping real news. Taylor would’ve loved this.”
