GOOD NEWS: NFL Survey Ranks Patrick Mahomes as the Best Quarterback

Is there any doubt? According to the NFL, Patrick Mahomes is once again the top quarterback in football.

In a recent ESPN survey, league coaches, executives, and scouts ranked the top 10 quarterbacks. For another consecutive year, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback stands above his peers. Mahomes’s lowest ranking was second for 2024, underscoring his dominance.

Jeremy Fowler explains the selection, with analysis from Matt Bowen highlighting Mahomes’s adaptability.

“No quarterback adjusts better than Mahomes, who has shown resilience through various challenges,” Fowler wrote. “In 2022, he compensated for Tyreek Hill’s departure by throwing 31 touchdown passes to running backs and tight ends, the most in a single season in the Super Bowl era. Last year, he revitalized an offense that had become stagnant and lacked reliable receivers after a tough loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day, improving his regular season QBR of 63.1 to an impressive 86.6 in four playoff games. His career-high 14 interceptions were not an issue in the postseason, where he threw one interception and six touchdown passes.

“Mahomes continues to find creative and mobile ways to win. His 14% sack rate when pressured was the second-lowest in the league behind Josh Allen. When the 49ers tightened passing lanes in the Super Bowl, Mahomes used his legs, gaining 66 yards on nine carries. ‘What’s funny is he can still improve,’ a high-ranking NFL official said. ‘He’s never truly refined his footwork since entering the league. It hasn’t mattered because he’s so good.'”

Here are the top five quarterbacks from the survey:
1. Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs)
2. Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals)
3. Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills)
4. Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens)
5. Matthew Stafford (Los Angeles Rams)

Even after a “down” year, Mahomes remains the NFL’s top quarterback. Despite a challenging season, Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense came alive in the playoffs, complemented by Steve Spagnuolo’s league-best defense, resulting in a second consecutive Super Bowl title and cementing the Chiefs as a modern football dynasty.

As the 2024-25 season approaches, Mahomes and Kansas City are again positioned for a championship run. With improved talent at wide receiver, the offensive struggles from last year are expected to dissipate. The focus on explosive plays will make the Chiefs’ offense more dynamic and challenging for opponents.

With the NFL’s top quarterback leading the way, Mahomes is well-positioned to justify his ranking for another season.
