Track athlete Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States finished second in the 100 meters, but was beaten by Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, who won her nation’s first-ever Olympic medal.

In other sports, the men’s basketball team defeated Puerto Rico, while the women’s soccer team went to the semifinals with a victory over Japan in extra time.
