JUST IN: £32m Tottenham Player Rejects Transfer Offers

Tottenham Hotspur faces significant challenges in offloading a particular player this summer. Despite their successful moves in the transfer market, including the arrivals of Timo Werner and Archie Gray, and freeing up space by moving out players like Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Bryan Gil, one player’s departure remains problematic.

Sergio Reguilon Continues to Reject Offers

Sergio Reguilon, signed from Real Madrid for £32 million in the summer of 2020 (Sky Sports), initially made a strong impression under former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, finishing his debut season with five assists. However, his game time gradually diminished, leading to loan spells at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford.

Now back at Tottenham, it’s evident that Reguilon has no future with the club. Manager Ange Postecoglou even excluded him from the pre-season tour to facilitate a transfer. Despite receiving numerous offers, Reguilon has rejected them all, as reported by Sami Mokbel. The reason? He is determined to join a club competing in European tournaments next season.

Mokbel tweeted, “Sergio Reguilon, back at Spurs, has rejected numerous offers, wants to sign for a club playing in Europe.”

Reguilon’s Ambitions and Potential Destinations

Tottenham currently has Destiny Udogie as their first-choice left-back, with Ben Davies as the backup. Additionally, Micky van de Ven has shown he can fill the position when needed. As such, Reguilon is surplus to requirements, and a transfer before the window closes at the end of August is widely anticipated.

Interestingly, Reguilon has expressed a willingness to join Manchester United, a club actively seeking a new left-back. Fabrizio Romano recently disclosed that Reguilon would gladly accept a move to United, leaving it to be seen if the Red Devils will consider making an offer for him.

In summary, while Tottenham has made significant progress in their transfer activities, the situation with Sergio Reguilon remains unresolved. His insistence on joining a club playing in Europe adds complexity to Tottenham’s efforts to sell him. Whether Manchester United or another European club will step in remains to be seen.
