JUST IN: Boston Celtics Free Agent Speaks About Possible Return

The Boston Celtics retained nearly their entire championship roster from last season, with the exceptions of Svi Mykhailiuk and Oshae Brissett. The drafting of Baylor Scheierman and the contract extension of Sam Hauser make Mykhailiuk’s return unlikely, but Brissett still has a potential path back to the team through free agency.

Earlier this offseason, Brissett chose to opt out of his $2.46 million player option. Despite this, over a month into free agency, he remains unsigned. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, BrissyTV, the 26-year-old forward discussed his free agency status. He mentioned he is in talks with several teams and is seeking more playing time, though he hasn’t ruled out a return to the Celtics.

“I want to do my job, and I love basketball. I want to play. So that’s really it. You know, I’m still a free agent now, talking to some teams. You guys will all see, obviously, when it happens, where I end up. But, you know, that’s full transparency, man. Like, at the end of the day, that’s what it comes down to. I loved every single part about being a Boston Celtic. And, you know, I could go back. Who freaking knows? The door is not closed fully. It’s like, it’s like right there, but it’s not closed fully.”

In his first season with the Celtics, Brissett didn’t play a significant role but became a fan favorite due to his energetic play. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Currently, the Celtics have one roster spot left. According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, the team is likely to keep this spot open as the regular season approaches.

“The Boston Celtics have filled 14 of their 15 roster spots and are likely to leave the final spot vacant heading into the regular season. The Celtics will maintain flexibility with the open roster spot while saving on the luxury tax.”

Oshae Brissett Admits He Probably Won’t Get Playing Time if He Returns

Brissett has made it clear that playing time is his top priority as a free agent. Known for his versatility, athleticism, and energy, Brissett is also a strong rebounder for his size, making him suitable for small-ball lineups. In his video, he acknowledged that if he returns to Boston, it would be primarily for the atmosphere.

“All I want to do is play, bro. Like if I go back to Boston, like how all the fans and you guys want me to come back, I’m literally going back for the vibes, you know what I’m saying? I’m not 36, I’m 26, so I can’t go nowhere for the vibes. I want to play basketball. I got a lot of juice left, bro. I’m in the prime of my athleticism and career. You know, I’m supposed to be playing. That’s all I was looking for, bro. That’s all I wanted.”

Given the current roster composition, it seems unlikely that Brissett would be a regular contributor. However, since a return is still possible, it will be interesting to see if he re-signs with the Celtics.
