At 75 years old, John Force, a sixteen-time NHRA Funny Car champion, reassures fans that retirement isn’t imminent, though he’s already planning for his succession.
In preparation for the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway, Force addressed recent speculation about his future in racing, particularly after naming Austin Prock as his eventual successor.
“I simply want everyone to know that Austin Prock represents the future of John Force Racing,” explained Force, reflecting on his decision to highlight Prock’s potential during the NHRA Mission Foods Series event in Epping, NH. “It wouldn’t make sense for me to hold onto my seat indefinitely, especially with someone as talented as Austin ready to step up.”

Prock, whose family has longstanding ties to John Force Racing, expressed gratitude for Force’s endorsement, noting their history together since Prock’s childhood. “John and I have discussed this transition privately for a long time,” Prock shared. “When he made it public, I was surprised, but the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive.”
Acknowledging his rookie season in Funny Car and his rapid ascent in the standings, Prock emphasized his commitment to racing, fostered by the support and mentorship he received from Force and the team. “John took a chance on me back in 2017,” Prock recalled. “I came from a background in circle track racing, but he saw potential. It’s been a chaotic journey, but I’ve learned so much.”
Looking ahead, Prock aims to continue building on his early success and hopes to honor Force’s legacy by maintaining a competitive edge in the sport. “When the day comes for me to sit in John’s seat, it’ll be a significant moment,” Prock mused. “Until then, I’m focused on proving myself on the track and making my mark in NHRA racing.”
