JUST IN: Red Sox Face Another Injury Concern

Manager Alex Cora and the Boston Red Sox have secured two consecutive wins against the Detroit Tigers following a heavy 5-0 defeat in the series opener on Thursday. On Sunday, the Red Sox aim for a 3-1 series victory over the Tigers at Fenway Park, but they will be missing one of their promising young prospects due to an injury sustained on Saturday.

Second baseman Vaughn Grissom injured his hamstring while running to first base on a ground ball during the second inning of Saturday’s game. Grissom is now scheduled for imaging to assess the extent of the injury.

“He (Grissom) is actually getting an MRI to see where we’re at,” said Cora, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com.

Cora also updated fans on Romy Gonzalez, who was placed on the injured list on Sunday morning due to a strain in his left hamstring.

“We don’t expect Romy’s to be that long,” said Cora, providing some relief to Red Sox fans.

Grissom’s injury is particularly concerning as it is not his first hamstring issue this season. He missed the first 32 games of the regular season due to a hamstring injury sustained during spring training. Cora is hopeful that this injury will require a shorter recovery period.

“We’re not there yet,” Cora said. “He feels like it wasn’t as bad as in spring training. But he’s getting imaging so we’ll know.”

Cora also elaborated on Gonzalez’s situation.

“Just felt tight yesterday,” Cora said. “He wasn’t a go today. It was going to take a few days. So we needed to make the move.”

Grissom was acquired by the Red Sox from the Atlanta Braves this past offseason. His stint with the Braves showed promise, though it was sometimes underwhelming, leading to his move to Boston.
