JUST IN: Tottenham confirms first Summer transfer decision

Tottenham have notified Ryan Sessegnon that his contract will not be renewed this summer, as reported by football.london. The 24-year-old’s deal included an option for an additional year, but he will be leaving the club at the end of the month.

Sessegnon only managed to play twice this season due to ongoing injury problems that have affected his time in north London. As a result, he will become a free agent after making just 57 appearances for Spurs since his £20 million transfer from Fulham in 2019.

His last appearance for Tottenham was on January 5 as a late substitute in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Burnley, marking his only senior game this season. His other appearance was in February for the Under-21s against West Ham.

Sessegnon has not been selected for the upcoming friendly against Newcastle in Australia. Tottenham’s 24-man squad for the match does not include Cristian Romero or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

For Sessegnon, this marks the end of a challenging period, during which he played a minor role due to surgeries on both legs following persistent hamstring issues. Earlier this year, he addressed his struggles on social media, expressing determination to recover: “I’ve been down this road before. I’ll pick myself up, stay head strong, and begin my recovery in the best way possible.”

He added, “Having been through an operation and recovery on my other hamstring last year, and knowing how strong that hamstring is now, I know this is the best solution to put an end to the recurring issues.”
