Juventus winger Matias Soulé is reportedly on the brink of transferring to AS Roma, dashing the hopes of Aston Villa and Leicester City for a summer acquisition. The 21-year-old had attracted interest from both Premier League clubs, but negotiations progressed rapidly this week, setting him up for a move to Roma.
Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano indicated that “today is the day for Soulé to Roma,” with his medical examination and contract signings imminent. Although the official announcement might not come until the weekend, the deal is virtually finalized.
The agreed package totals €30 million (£25.2 million), consisting of a €26 million fixed fee and €4 million in add-ons, along with a 10 percent sell-on clause for Juventus. The Argentina Under-23 international has been gaining more playing time at Juventus in recent seasons, but his major breakthrough occurred during a loan spell at Frosinone last season. Despite the club’s relegation from Serie A, Soulé impressed with 11 goals and three assists in 36 matches.
With Soulé headed to Roma, Aston Villa and Leicester City will need to pursue other targets. Villa, led by Unai Emery, had already begun to look elsewhere once it became clear Soulé wouldn’t be joining them.
