Perez’s F1 Future in Doubt After Qualification Disaster

Sergio Perez is facing increasing uncertainty about his future in Formula 1 after another disappointing qualifying session, while Red Bull tests a rising star in their RB20.

The Mexican driver’s recent lackluster performances have fueled speculation about his tenure with Red Bull, despite his contract extension until 2026.

Perez has not secured a podium finish since the Chinese Grand Prix and has only accumulated 15 out of a possible 116 points for Red Bull over the last five races. His struggles continued at the British Grand Prix, where he crashed out in Q1 and will start the race in P19.

Amidst this pressure, rumors suggest Perez’s contract includes a performance clause that could see him replaced by Daniel Ricciardo if his results do not improve. Adding to this pressure, Red Bull has given their reserve driver, Liam Lawson, a test run in the RB20 following the British Grand Prix, according to Motorsport.com.

Lawson, who filled in for an injured Ricciardo at Alpha Tauri last season, impressed with a ninth-place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix. The young Kiwi has been eager to secure a full-time race seat in F1, potentially challenging both Perez and Ricciardo.

As Lawson prepares for his test during a Red Bull promotional event, the team will have the opportunity to assess his performance against Perez’s. This test could further influence Red Bull’s decision regarding Perez’s future with the team.
