Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora gave a deeply emotional and heartfelt speech to his team following their victory over the Kansas City Royals, marking his 500th win as a manager. This achievement places him as the fourth-winningest skipper in Red Sox history.
“I knew this one was coming. I knew it,” Cora said. “It’s been fun the whole year. Obviously, me and my family made a big commitment a few weeks ago…what you guys bring to the equation on a daily basis in my life, it’s amazing. I love it.”

Cora was referring to his recent contract extension, a three-year deal worth $21.75 million, making him the second-highest paid manager in baseball.
Continuing his speech, Cora expressed his deep connection and commitment to his players. “Game one in Tampa, when we won, up to this day, I get anxious because of you guys. Because I live it with you guys. Every pitch, every at-bat, I hope you guys feel that I fight every pitch with you.”
Cora concluded with an optimistic outlook for the team’s future. “We got a big shot to win this thing. And it’s because of you, you guys are very talented and I think we can do it. You guys are humble, and you are hungry. Let’s keep going.”
Cora will be aiming for his 501st win tonight against the Kansas City Royals at 8:10 pm EST.
