Italian club Atalanta made offers for James in January, but they couldn’t come to an agreement with Birmingham. They weren’t the only ones interested; Crystal Palace also reportedly submitted a bid.
Atalanta is still interested in James this summer, and several other teams have been linked to the Welsh international, including Bologna, West Ham United, Leicester City, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, and Southampton.
However, according to HITC, Ipswich Town is currently leading the race to sign James. The newly-promoted Premier League side is reportedly “looking to try and broker a deal” for the 19-year-old to add to their roster, which already includes former EFL players Jacob Greaves and Liam Delap.
