Leicester City is making strides to sign a £17m midfield powerhouse, aiming to pair him with Wilfred Ndidi, following a tumultuous start to their summer transfer window.
Leicester’s Transfer Moves
Despite initial setbacks, including the departure of Enzo Maresca and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea, Leicester has been proactive in the transfer market. They have brought in Issahaku Fatawu on a permanent deal, along with Caleb Okoli, Michael Golding, and Bobby De Cordova-Reid. A crucial move this summer was securing Ndidi’s unexpected contract extension, which was a significant relief for the club.

Ndidi expressed his excitement, stating, “I feel great, I feel excited, I feel at home. That’s the most important thing. I feel really happy to continue with the Club. My family is settled here and everyone back home, when they say Ndidi, they say Leicester also! It’s really amazing to be a part of this journey going forward.”
Targeting Richard Rios
Leicester is now reportedly competing with Everton to sign Richard Rios from Palmeiras. According to South American journalist Nicola Parcerias, the Foxes have made their first approach for Rios, who recently helped Colombia reach the Copa America final. Palmeiras is open to negotiating his exit for around €20m (£17m), despite his hefty release clause of approximately €100m (£84m).
Building a Balanced Midfield
Rios, described as a “ball-carrying machine” by Ben Mattinson, could form a balanced midfield partnership with Ndidi, known for his ball recovery skills. This combination could provide Leicester with the solid foundation needed as they return to the Premier League.
Financial Considerations
Leicester must be mindful of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. However, successfully signing Rios would represent smart business for the club. Navigating these financial constraints while securing a promising player like Rios would be a major win for Leicester before the transfer window closes.
