Report: Red Sox Starter’s Struggles Result in 9-4 Defeat Against Blue Jays

Fenway Park hosted the second game of a three-game series between the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night, culminating in a 9-4 loss for the home team.

Boston’s starting pitcher, Brayan Bello, had a challenging performance, surrendering seven earned runs on five hits and three walks over just 2 1/3 innings. These runs came in the third inning, immediately following a brief lead for the Red Sox thanks to a Rafael Devers solo home run and a Masataka Yoshida RBI double that brought Tyler O’Neill home.

Reliever Greg Weissert stepped in to close out the third inning for Bello without allowing any hits. Josh Winckowski, recently called up from Triple-A Worcester, pitched the remaining six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out eight, effectively saving the bullpen.

Despite early runs, the Red Sox offense struggled throughout the game. After their initial scoring burst, they only managed two more runs in the sixth inning, courtesy of a two-run homer by O’Neill following a fan interference call that allowed Devers to reach base. In total, Boston tallied just five hits and three walks.

The loss brings the Red Sox’s record to 43-47 overall and 19-21 at Fenway Park. The series will conclude on Wednesday, with the winner taking the three-game set.
