The Los Angeles Lakers have limited options when it comes to potential trade targets this offseason. One player who might be on their radar is Atlanta Hawks wing De’Andre Hunter, who could be on the move before the offseason concludes.
Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report identified the Lakers as one of the “top landing spots” for Hunter, explaining why he would be a good fit for the team.
“Hunter may not drastically alter the Lakers’ championship odds, but he is an almost ideal fit on the perimeter,” Conway wrote in an August 7 article. “Although Trae Young’s passing ability has benefited Hunter, he’s never played alongside someone with LeBron James’ level of impact. Hunter’s three-point shooting could improve significantly, possibly reaching the 40 percent range if he joined the Lakers.”
Conway also highlighted the financial considerations teams are facing under the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), suggesting that Hunter might be one of the best options available for the Lakers.
“Hunter started a four-year, $90 million contract last season, which is slightly above market value for a player with his skills. With the financial constraints of the new CBA, teams are becoming more cautious about committing to large, long-term contracts.”
While the Lakers initially aimed for bigger acquisitions, Hunter could be a solid, mid-tier option that aligns with their needs. Although he isn’t a star, Hunter is a reliable two-way wing who would be an upgrade over their current roster options.
