Suns’ Best Player in Future is Still Obvious

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns have had a busy offseason, marked by the hiring of a new head coach, the addition of three promising rookies, and the signing of two veteran point guards. These moves signal a noticeable shift from the team’s previous iteration.

However, some things remain unchanged—one of those being Devin Booker, who is now entering his tenth year with the franchise. Booker has had a successful summer, particularly by winning over American fans during the Paris Olympics, where he played a key role in securing the gold medal for Team USA.

Back home, this momentum continues, with Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report predicting that Booker will still be the Suns’ best player three years from now.

“Devin Booker has been the face of the Phoenix Suns for most of the last decade, even if the recent arrival of Kevin Durant overshadowed that temporarily. By the start of the 2027-28 season, Durant will be 39 years old, while Booker will be 31. That age difference alone would favor Booker, but there’s also Durant’s history of moving between teams, making his future with the Suns uncertain,” Bailey wrote.

“Even setting those factors aside, the case for Booker is strong. Over the past six years, he’s averaged 26.7 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.2 three-pointers per game. He’ll still be in his prime three years from now.”

As Bailey pointed out, Durant will be 39 at the start of the 2027-28 season—assuming he’s still with the Suns by then. While Durant could still be a valuable player at that age, it’s unlikely he will be the team’s best player at that point.

The only real question is whether Booker will remain with the franchise over the next three seasons. Despite ongoing speculation about his potential departure, Booker has been steadfastly loyal to Phoenix and the Suns throughout his time there, making it hard to believe a trade is imminent.
