Trade Block: Red Sox in the Mix for Gold Glove Winner

The Boston Red Sox are in need of an upgrade in the middle infield, and they may find it at the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline.

It’s expected that the Red Sox will make some additions, possibly targeting a short-term solution for their middle infield. Colorado Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers has been highlighted as a “potential fit” for both the Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

“Rodgers missed half of June with a hamstring injury, but the 27-year-old has played well of late, slashing .333/.365/.625 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 14 games last month,” Feinsand noted. “With the club’s No. 2 prospect Adael Amador knocking on the door, the Rockies could look to move Rodgers, who is earning $3.2 million this season and is arbitration-eligible for one more year. Potential fits: Dodgers, Red Sox.”

Although Rodgers may not be a household name, his Gold Glove Award and strong offensive season—slashing .281/.322/.402 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 70 games—make him an appealing option for the Red Sox at second base.

Adding Rodgers would bolster Boston’s lineup as they aim for a playoff spot. The team could then decide in the offseason how to integrate him with Vaughn Grissom.

To make a playoff push, the Red Sox should explore all available options.
