According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Los Angeles Lakers are among several teams interested in acquiring Brooklyn Nets small forward Cam Johnson.
Johnson’s value is bolstered by his 6-foot-8 size, age (28), and shooting prowess. Last season, only 10 NBA players 6-7 or taller averaged more than his 2.4 made three-pointers per game.
The Kings, Magic, and Lakers are known to be interested, but there are recent reports suggesting that the Spurs, Raptors, or Warriors might also be contenders for his services.
New Lakers head coach JJ Redick has emphasized his desire to increase the team’s three-point shooting and surround LeBron James and Anthony Davis with versatile, two-way players. Johnson fits this requirement perfectly.
Last season, the Lakers ranked 28th in three-point attempts per game. As a career 39.2% three-point shooter on 5.2 attempts per game, Johnson could significantly enhance the Lakers’ shooting capability. At 27, he is also a competent defender due to his size and ability to switch. This would allow him to focus on perimeter defense against wings and guards, rather than battling stronger low-post players.
