In this potential trade, the Lakers would acquire Clint Capela, while the Hawks would receive Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, and a 2027 second-round pick from the Lakers. This deal benefits both teams: the Lakers fill their need for a center and open up a roster spot, and the Hawks clear the way for Onyeka Okongwu to become the starting center while adding Vanderbilt’s defensive capabilities.
Capela, who averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks last season, provides the Lakers with a solid rebounding and defensive presence. Despite his decline, Capela remains effective, particularly alongside Anthony Davis. The Hawks, meanwhile, improve their defense with Vanderbilt, a versatile defender who struggled with injuries and limited offensive impact last season but has the potential to thrive under Hawks’ coach Quin Snyder. Vincent is considered a minor addition, expected to have limited impact compared to the core players involved in the trade.
This trade allows both teams to progress: the Lakers get a much-needed center, and the Hawks get a valuable defensive asset while promoting Okongwu to a starting role.
