The Los Angeles Lakers are one of only three NBA teams that have not signed a free agent this summer. The lack of activity from general manager Rob Pelinka and his team is surprising, especially considering their first-round exit in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
This roster is not championship-caliber, as evidenced repeatedly during the 2023-24 season.
Many expected Los Angeles to pursue major trades. They were linked to Dejounte Murray before his move from the Atlanta Hawks to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Lakers were also involved in sign-and-trade discussions for Klay Thompson before he joined the defending Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks.
So, what’s next for the Lakers? Maintaining the status quo is clearly not a viable option. With LeBron James nearing the end of his career, the front office is under significant pressure.
