The 2024 MLB draft is approaching, and the Boston Red Sox have an opportunity to acquire a player who could significantly impact their franchise for years to come.
As Sunday draws near, various mock drafts are being released, including a three-round projection by Edward Sutelan of Sporting News.
In Sutelan’s mock draft, the Red Sox are predicted to select Florida State outfielder James Tibbs with the 12th pick in the first round.

Sutelan writes:
“Last year, the Red Sox chose a bat-first catcher in Kyle Teel. This year, they continue with a bat-first player, selecting outfielder James Tibbs. Boston has a history of picking hitters in the first round, and Tibbs’ polished hitting and above-average power make him a top choice, despite some concerns about his defensive capabilities.”
Tibbs, 21, earned the title of ACC Player of the Year in 2024, boasting a .363 batting average, a 1.265 OPS, 28 home runs, 95 RBIs, and eight stolen bases.
Following this, Sutelan projects Boston to pick Tennessee right-handed pitcher Drew Beam at No. 50 in the second round and Florida shortstop Colby Shelton at No. 86 in the third round.
Beam, 21, helped the Volunteers win the College World Series this year. In 19 starts, he recorded a 4.22 ERA and a 1.273 WHIP, with 99 strikeouts in 102.1 innings.
Shelton, also 21, hit .254 with a .925 OPS, 20 home runs, 56 RBIs, and six stolen bases, while making just six errors in his 66 games for Florida this season.
