The Boston Red Sox have already made a couple of moves ahead of the MLB trade deadline but are still exploring ways to bolster their roster.
Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden shared insights in The Athletic, mentioning several potential Red Sox targets. Bowden noted that Craig Breslow and his team were considering significant acquisitions, linking the Red Sox to Oakland Athletics slugger Brent Rooker and Miami Marlins relief pitcher Tanner Scott.

Additionally, Bowden suggested that Boston might make a less high-profile move before the deadline. It’s “possible” the Red Sox could acquire Josh Bell from the Marlins, though they may face competition from the Seattle Mariners and the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2019 All-Star.
This rumor emerged before FanSided’s Robert Murray reported that Miami intended to place Bell on waivers. This move wouldn’t preclude a trade, as demonstrated by the Los Angeles Dodgers placing James Paxton on waivers before trading him to the Red Sox. The Marlins appear to be gauging interest in Bell, who is heating up at the plate, and can reinstate him if no trade materializes.
It remains uncertain how interested the Red Sox are in Bell. The addition of Danny Jansen has given Boston more roster flexibility, and Triston Casas is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon. The Red Sox might prioritize other needs, such as relief pitching and middle infield positions.
Boston and other teams aiming for the playoffs have until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to finalize trades.
